Went to see Iris Dement at the Bull Run on Thursday, 1/26. This was a twice-rescheduled show, originally because of an illness in her family and the second time because of Hurricane (Tropical Storm by then) Irene.
She was really good, charming, and shy like you wouldn't believe. Her second song was a cover of Lefty Frizzell's "That's the Way Love Goes" and I was entranced. She did mostly new songs to me but also did some "hits" like Infamous Angel and one of my favorites, No Time to Cry. She was on the baby grand all night and was delightfully homey ... at one point wouldn't/couldn't continue until she was brought tea and honey; at another point turned around and waved to the people behind her so they wouldn't have to see her back all night.
